DIY Nectar Bath Treats Sugar Crush Body Scrub Dupe

Nectar Treats Sugar Crush Sugar Body Scrub Ingredients;

Sucrose, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance (Parfum), Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Emulsifying Wax NF, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide

So I really wasn’t sure what amount of coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil, or cetyl alcohol they were using. Yeah, that’s like every ingredient, but I basically just took a guess on how much of each ingredient to use. This was my first attempt as well. So let me know what you think. Do you like how it turned out? Honestly, I really like it and may even prefer it over the Nectar treats one because it spreads easier. The scrub I made ended up being more fluffy and whipped. I either just whipped it too much or I used more shea butter than they did. So if you don’t want yours fluffy like mine, then use less shea butter and more coconut oil or almond oil instead. If I attempted this again I would use less shea butter and more coconut oil. Mine seemed to be a bit harder than theirs too, but had better spreadability.

Formula;

Phase A

  • 15% Coconut Oil

  • 10% Shea Butter

  • 5.5% Almond Oil (I used sunflower oil)

  • 5% Cetyl Alcohol

  • 2% Emulsifying Wax NF

Phase B

  • 60% Sugar

  • 0.5% Cranberry Seeds

  • 1% Optiphen

  • 1% Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil

400 gram batch;

Phase A

  • 60 grams Coconut Oil

  • 40 grams Shea Butter

  • 22 grams Almond Oil (I used sunflower oil)

  • 20 grams Cetyl Alcohol

  • 8 grams Emulsifying Wax NF

Phase B

  • 240 grams Sugar

  • 2 grams Cranberry Seeds

  • 4 grams Optiphen

  • 4 grams Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil

Directions;

  • Combine all ingredients in phase A in a heat safe bowl.

  • Create a water bath to melt everything in phase A. You will need to mix phase A periodically to help melt everything. (Water bath; Fill a pan with an inch or so of water and place the bowl in the pan of water and place the pan on your stove top on medium heat.)

  • Once everything is melted remove bowl from heat and let it harden. I put mine in the freezer.

  • Once it has hardened mix with a hand mixer. (don’t let it get super hard or it will be hard to whip, but I don’t think it will get really hard since this is a softer scrub)

  • Try not to whip it a lot unless you want it to be fluffy. Whip it longer if you want it to be fluffy.

  • Add in all of the phase B ingredients and mix in between each ingredient. Add in mica powder at this time if desired.

  • Pour into desired jar.

  • Scrub will be harder in colder temperatures and will be softer in warmer temperatures. If it is hotter where you are, then you will need more cetyl alcohol or emulsifying wax in your formula and less liquid oils.

Benefits of Each Ingredient;

Coconut Oil - adds a bit of structure to scrub (not if coconut oil melts in your environment though) Emollient

Shea Butter - Emollient and adds structure to scrub. will be softer in hotter climates and harder in colder. Is probably adding the fluffiness to this scrub. Use less if you don’t want it to be fluffy.

Almond Oil (I used sunflower oil) - Emollient. Making sure you add some oil keeps the scrub from being too hard.

Cetyl Alcohol - adds structure/hardness to scrub. Use more if you want the scrub to be harder. Is also an emollient.

Emulsifying Wax NF - all in one emulsifier, but is being used as a thickener and structure agent in this scrub. Use more if you want your scrub to be harder.

Sugar - Exfoliant.

Cranberry Seeds - for decoration, doesn’t really exfoliate.

Optiphen - Preservative

Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil - Fragrance that smells similar to the Sugar Crush Body Scrub.

Substitutes;

Coconut Oil - try using 1% cetyl alcohol in place of it and the rest of the percentage use a liquid oil

Shea Butter - mango butter is the closest in texture. Another butter like cocoa or kokum will be harder, but will still work.

Almond Oil (I used sunflower oil) - any oil of choice that is not to heavy like jojoba oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, safflower oil, etc.

Cetyl Alcohol - Cetearyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid (these will have different hardnesses so experiment with percentages. Stearic acid will harden the product much more than cetyl, so use less of it.)

Emulsifying Wax NF - Olivem 1000, Ritamulse SCG/EcoMulse, Polawax(same thing as emulsifying wax), or any other all in one emulsifier that also thickens.

Cranberry Seeds - no sub that I know of.

Optiphen - phenonip, euxyl pe 9010.

Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil - any fragrance of choice.
