3% Perfumer’s Base Crafters Choice

Directions;

  • I wore a Respirator while I formulated with the Perfumer’s Alcohol. I recommend doing that as well. Also, open up a window and make sure you are in a well ventilated space.

  • In a Sanitized Container, combine all ingredients in phase A in order, making sure to add in the Sodium Carbomer last. Mix everything together. The Sodium Carbomer will chunk up. Cover container with plastic wrap and let the Sodium Carbomer sit to hydrate. In about an hour it will me a thick gel.

  • After an hour or so, mix phase A well until you have a smooth gel.

  • In a separate container, combine all ingredients in phase B. Mix to make sure all the Menthol Crystals are covered in Alcohol. Cover container with plastic wrap and let sit. It may take a few hours for the Menthol Crystals to fully dissolve in the alcohol. Mine took about an hour.

  • Once all the menthol crystals are dissolved, this is when you can add in the Polysorbate 80, if you aren’t used the Polysorbate 80 that’s okay.

  • Now pour phase B into phase A and mix until well combined.

  • You will noticed if you use Polysorbate 80 the product will turn a opaque white. If you just use the perfumer’s alcohol if will be a cloudy gel. Different perfumer’s alcohols may produce different results. I’ve linked to the exact ones I’ve used.

  • If you want to adjust and lower the pH a bit you can, but I kept my as is since I am using Sodium Carbomer. Sodium Carbomer causes the pH of solutions to raise to around 6 in order to gel. You can lower it a bit to 5.5 if you want with out it thinning, but if you lower the pH too much the Sodium Carbomer will deactivate and the product will thin.

  • Link to bottles I used - 5 oz plastic squeeze bottles.
