How to Make Cleansing Oil Gel (Exclusive Feb. 2024)

Cleansing oil is used before your regular cleanser to help break down dirt, debris, and makeup. It has a gorgeous thickened gel consistency so it makes it easy to apply and feels so good being massaged into the skin. Have fun customizing this cleansing oil gel by using different oils in phase A. You do not need to use the same oils as me. Just make sure you use the Cromollient SCE and the Silica Dimethyl Silylate. Cromollient SCE is the key ingredient to get this product to work.

Formula

Phase A

Phase B

200 gram Recipe

Phase A

Phase B

Directions;

  • Combine all ingredients in phase A in any order and mix.

  • Put on a respirator, this is extremely important when working with Silica Dimethyl Silylate. You may also want to open a window, put a fan in the window, or maybe even weigh this out outside, as the powder does go everywhere.

  • Add the Silica Dimethyl Silylate into phase A. You can add in a little bit at a time or add it all in at once. Whatever works best for you. And you want to mix the Silica Dimethyl Silylate in with the phase A ingredients until it has fully combined.

  • There will be chunks in the product, so let this sit for a few hours or overnight until all of the Silica Dimethyl Silylate has dissolved into the oils. You might want to come back and mix it periodically.

  • You should end up with a nice smooth oily gel and you can pour it into whatever bottle works best for you. I used a pump bottle.

Benefits of Each Ingredient;

Apricot Kernel Oil- a lightweight oil that is one of my faves. Moisturizes skin.

Jojoba Oil- oil similar to our skins natural sebum. Great for all skin types and adds moisture to skin.

Bakuchiol Oil - this is not pure Bakuchiol. It’s diluted bakuchiol in oil. Bakuchiol is commonly referred to as a gentle alternative to retinol due to it’s “anti-aging” benefits.

Avocado Oil - heavier oil that adds moisture to skin.

Cromollient SCE - Key ingredient to make this a cleansing oil. INCI: Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate

Lemon Peel Oil FSS - Plant Oil - Said to help enhance, the glow, clarity, and overall appearance of skin. It can help brighten and stimulate new skin growth.

Vitamin E - Antioxidant - helps keep oils from going rancid.

Silica Dimethyl Silylate - Hydrophobic fumed silica that thickens oils and polyols and suspends particles in oils. Provides thickening properties in the presence of polar solvents (e.g. dipropylene glycol, triethyl citrate or propylene carbonate). Forms transparent gels in oils (e.g. mineral oil, castor oil, plant oils). Thickens oil phases in emulsions and increases viscosity and gloss of various oils by forming oil-gels

Substitutes;

Apricot Kernel Oil - any oil of choice.

Jojoba Oil - any oil of choice.

Bakuchiol Oil - any oil of choice.

Avocado Oil - any oil of choice.

Cromollient SCE - no sub.

Lemon Peel Oil FSS - any oil of choice

Vitamin E - no sub but you can leave it out if you don’t have it

Silica Dimethyl Silylate - in the video version of this post I showed a few different oil thickeners I tested out before deciding to use Silica Dimethyl Silylate. I tested 5% Lipidthix which worked but the oil cleanser wasn’t clear or as thick. I tested 2% Synthetic Wax and 4% Synthetic Wax which both worked but wasn’t clear. I also tried 10% & 20% Cera Bellina which was way to thick, but would have worked as a cleansing balm.
