In my last patreon exclusive I did an experiment with Sucragel CF & Lumorol k 5229. It did end up being a fail, but this one, I am pretty confident in. Instead of thickening the Lumorol k 5229 with Sucragel CF, I want to try thickening it with Silica Dimethyl Silylate. Then if that works I want to try mixing it with sugar to make a foaming scrub. I got the inspiration from a patron who wanted me to dupe the Josie Mara Argan Sugar Balm Body Scrub. I noticed this scrub contained Silica Dimethyl Silylate and all of the same ingredients in Lumorol, so I figured it would work great! So here was the formula I tried.
Lumorol & Silica Dimethyl Silylate Experiment formula;
35% Lumorol k 5229
0.5% vitamin E
59.5% oil (I used sunflower oil)
5% Silica Dimethyl Silylate
Directions;
Start by combining the lumorol, vitamin e and oil first and mixing.
Once those are mixed together put on your respirator and add the silica dimethyl silylate.
With your respirator still on mix until all of the silica dimethyl silylate is mixed into the oil.
Now you can remove your mask. Let this sit overnight. The silica can take a bit to hydrate fully.
Results;
I wasn’t sure how much silica dimethyl silylate I should use. So I just went with 5%. You can use it between 1%-10% so in the middle seemed like a good place to start. After I let this sit for a couple days the silica dimethyl silylate was fully hydrated in the oil. It didn’t seem too thick I was worried it might be too thin, but I went ahead and added in equal parts sugar and I loved it!! The texture is gorgeous. Unfortunately after I let it sit overnight there was oil separated on the top. My goal is for no oil separation so I am going to try again. I have some ideas in mind to improve it so the oil doesn’t separate. I will update you all with a formula when I have one. Something else I didn’t like about it, is that it’s very drying. So hopefully I can find a way to make it feel more moisturizing.
Let me know if you try this or something similar and what your thoughts and results were.
